Smok Novo Review

Let me begin by saying, I was NOT given one of these little pod mods. I bought it shortly after they were released. So this is a 100% honest review on this device.

Isn't it adorable? I think so. And the size and shape is one of the things I love about it most. It is about the same size, and has the same feel, as a cigarette lighter. Coming from a pack and a half a day habit, that feel really helped me. With such a small size, it is easy to drop it in your pocket and head out, even women's pockets. Oh, and the mod shown? Smok calls that Royal Blue.... Their Blue one is the dark blue. Yes, that bothers me. I think they have them reversed. I *thought* I was ordering the dark blue one. Oh, well.

What was included in the package? The mod, two pods, a teeny tiny micro USB charging cable (it's 4" long), and a manual.

Like many pod mods, this little device does not have a button. It's air activated. That just means you place the mouthpiece in your mouth and inhale. It automatically fires.

Ah, the mouthpiece. I love it. It feels just right when placed between your lips. Smok calls it a whistle mouthpiece, and they're right on with that.

Each pod holds 2ml of e-juice. There's a small rubber plug on the side that you lift out of the way and fill. Most dropper tips on e-juice bottles are too big for the hole, though. So you definitely need a small tipped unicorn bottle or a needle tip bottle. For some reason, Smok did not include a needle tip bottle with this mod. I personally vape about 1ml of juice a day. I also tend to take small inhales. I have no reason to even attempt to see how big of a cloud I can get. If I was a cloud chaser, I'd stick with a sub-ohm setup. Unfortunately, I did not get 3-5 fills before the pod went bad. I only got 2 and then the taste of my juice changed and there was no way I could vape it. I'm a bit bummed it only lasted 4 days. I'm now on my second pod, so I guess I'll see if that continues to hold true.

The pods themselves slip into the device easily. They're held in there by a pressure system and have a snug fit. You can also pull it out easily to check on the level of your juice.

How long does it last and how long does it take to charge?
I can get a good 6-7 hours out of a single charge. I tend to chain vape for about 10-15 minutes, then set it down for awhile. As for charging, it takes almost exactly one hour. When it's time to charge, the device lets you know. You will get zero vapor and the little light on the front will blink 15 times. Some mods have lights that change color to warn you before it's dead, but Smok didn't do that here. When you plug it in, the light turns red to let you know it's charging. When it's done, the light turns off. (Yes, this might be a "duh" statement, but it's an important one.) For peeps who understand this stuff, Smok's website says the battery is 450mAh.

Time for the negatives. Unfortunately, every mod has them.
I have used this mod fairly heavy since July 30. As such, its little quirks and issues have had plenty of time to reveal themselves.

It leaks. Yeah... These companies always say they have a leak-proof system, but they lie. What's interesting is, if you fill the pod and leave it be, it's fine. It's when you vape on a regular basis that a bit of juice begins to collect where the mouthpiece meets the tank. I keep a napkin nearby to wipe it off periodically. And since this mod has a rounded bottom, you can't stand it up to help alleviate the problem. I hope Smok fixes this weird little quirk.

Like many of these air-driven mods, a bit of moisture will begin to collect where the pod meets the contacts inside the system. Apparently this can cause some issues, so I periodically use a cotton swab to wipe up the moisture.

Sometimes, I end up with a mouthful of juice. That is never pleasant. But I have yet to ever use any kind of system that didn't have some kind of spit back now and then. It doesn't happen all that often, so I just deal with it.

You cannot see the level of your juice unless you pop the pod out and take a look. For me, that's a minor inconvenience. I know I only vape around 1ml a day, so I don't check all that often.

One last quirk that popped up yesterday. After I vape, the device will keep firing. A few times, I've had to blow INTO the mouthpiece to make it stop. I'm frustrated by this because dang it! My pods are already burning out sooner than I think they should.

Besides the list of negatives, I love this little pod mod. However, if the pods don't start lasting longer than 2 fills, I'll be looking into other systems.
